Hershey Harrisburg Regional Visitors Guide 2009 - (Page 12) Wine Lovers, Take Note There are almost two dozen wineries within an hour’s drive of downtown Harrisburg, so it’s no surprise that the region draws wine enthusiasts from far and wide. Visitors travel to the midstate for tours, tastings and a warm welcome from local vintners with wisdom and wine to share. Visit www.pennsylvaniawine.com to learn more about the region’s many wineries. There are two easy-to-find wineries in our area. West Hanover Winery features award-winning wines, tastings and summer concerts. A few minutes north of Harrisburg, Hunters Valley Winery invites visitors to enjoy close to 20 varieties of wine, including Cabernet Franc, Visitors take note: Alcoholic beverages are not available for purchase in all restaurants in the Hershey Harrisburg region, but many local dining establishments invite patrons to bring their own wine to enjoy with their meals. Please inquire in advance about the rules at specific restaurants. Chardonnay, Riesling, Seyval Blanc and “Susquehanna Sunrise,” a fragrant, semi-sweet blush. The winery sits on the beautiful Susquehanna River, with a picnic shelter that overlooks the water. Hunters Valley Winery also hosts tastings, tours and special events. There are also several major events for wine lovers throughout the year. The Susquehanna Heartland Wine Trail’s March Madness is one. Every weekend in March, six local wineries open their doors for tours, tastings and special events. Some offer food and live entertainment ($30/couple). Or make plans to attend the 2009 Wine Festival where 150 vintners from around the world will create an evening of wine education and enjoyment.
