LGARIA COMMENTARY BY Leon L Brauner PHOTOS BY Leon L Brauner and Eric Fielding L1iS year's Bulgarian exhibit moves from the rectilinear fOlm of four years ago to a curvilinear form-a huge pink tunnel (shaped somewhat like avery large pink earthworm) which funnels the viewer from one end to the other and past aseries of small sharply focused exhibits of designs, models, photographs and production artifacts amid pink, soft-sculptured, penis-like stalactites and stalagmites. The larger than life-size scenic sculpture by Kroum Tonev for Todorov's TH E SKY, WHEN YOU LOOK AT IT FROM BENEATH seemed to guard the entrance to the tunnel. Its full-figured torso of metals, wood and textiles seemed to levitate inches above its base with legs seeming to tread air. Frozen wings which once flapped hung like tired windless spinnakers. The tactile impressions of the work was engaging and evocative. Within the tunnel were handsomely crafted scenic models, renovated theatrical spaces and renderings of costumes and sets. 40 F ALL I 9 9 ID&1
