Her clothes and philanthropy have always been the focal points of her and her family's lives. Her philanthropic weakness is for the arts, with major gifts going to the Orlando ballet, University of Central Florida Theatre department, Orlando Philharmonic, and Orlando Shakespeare Theater, but she is on the donor list for hundreds of non-profit organizations from cancer centers to funding AIdS/HIv research. "I like to control where my money is going. I want to give it locally and see where it's going, and employ people who should be employed in my own community. If everybody worked for their own community, we wouldn't have a problem." For one of Harriett's most recent contributions, one million dollars to the Orlando Performing Arts Center, she requested naming rights to the first floor ladies restroom.
