a New era for USITT Periodicals 1988-1995 by erIc FIeldINg 92 theatre design & teChnology W I N T E R 2010 in early 1988, usitt advertised an rfP for the position of an independent contractor editor. at the time, i was working as a freelance designer after having taught for a number of years at brigham Young university and the goodman school of drama. i had been deeply involved in usitt activities for the previous decade, serving on the board of directors, heading two delegate tours to the Prague Quadrennial as the vice-chair of the international liaison committee, coordinating two special exhibits for the biennial design expo, representing the us as the vicechair of the oistat scenography commission, and publishing a number of articles in TD&T and Theatre Crafts. My wife, cecelia, was working then (and she continues today) as a professional writer and editor. the combination of my interest in
