35 make it happen. If you think you can’t juggle one more thing in your busy schedule, with some help and by planning ahead, you can make time for the education you seek. You don’t have to go back to school full time. Simply taking 1 or 2 classes each semester or quarter will get you on the path to reaching your goals. Many of the more informal options for continuing education require much less time, but can provide the edge you need to get ahead. formally or informally, is never easy, but the knowledge you gain will be well worth the extra time, effort, and resources you put in. Depending on your current role within cardiovascular services, additional knowledge, whether within a specific area or generally across the service line, could be the means to get you closer to achieving your personal and professional goals. Financing your Goals: Make the most of your investment You might already be committed to a time investment, but what about the dollars necessary for continuing education? You may be thinking “is it worth it?” If you already have your associate’s degree and are considering getting a bachelor’s degree, the cost can vary depending on the school you attend. A state school will be much less expensive than a private university, though a national average of approximately $350.00 per credit is standard. Credit requirements and coursework do vary based on the chosen school and also the program or degree. Don’t let cost discourage you, however. There is money available for higher education through government programs, subsidiaries, and grants; tuition reimbursement through your employer; and also scholarships through organizations and universities. Even with all these options, we suggest that you start with your own employer. If your organization has tuition assistance, make sure you take advantage of it. Furthermore, some organizations also have monies budgeted for “professional development,” which could pay for certain types of courses and programs or seminars. Talk to your supervisor to see what is available that might fit within your goals. They can be a great source of information, and may even provide a helping hand in getting funding for a class or program that will not only benefit you, but also the heart or vascular program overall. Indeed, the most successful cardiovascular programs have savvy and knowledgeable leaders at the helm. Do also check with colleges and universities to see what financial assistance programs they have and what is available through other agencies. After considering these key components, the only thing left is to do it.
