Big Apple Becomes Greater New York During its 30-year tenure, HSMAI Big Apple Chapter has been the cornerstone of New York City tourism, representing the interests of hospitality professionals through its esteemed broad range of membership, composed of industry presidents, general managers, sales and marketing executives, booking agents, and advertising, marketing and public relations professionals. The May 2008 meeting marked a new milestone for the chapter when it announced a rebranding to the Greater New York Chapter of HSMAI. The landmark event was celebrated by a champagne toast (above) lead by Fran Brasseux, executive vice president of HSMAI. With this change, the chapter continues to act as the leading source for knowledge, education, business development and networking for the many individuals in the tourism, travel and hospitality sectors that make up the chapter. The rebranding pays homage to HSMAI members that extend beyond the metropolitan area to Westchester, Long Island, Connecticut and New Jersey. Mid-South Student Members Take Part in Resort Conference Think back to your college days. Lectures that taught you about the basics of management, laboratory classes to learn about the sciences and the many tests that you struggled through to remember. Now flash forward to students today. Yes there are still tests and lectures that they will remember, but now when graduates of the Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality and Resort Management remember their education, they will have a much more dynamic memory of their experience. Memories will include learning about the resort industry from practicing experts, dining on some of the finest resort cuisine and experiencing it all in sunny San Diego! These are just a few of the memories that 16 students of the Kemmons Wilson School will have that traveled recently to the Hotel Del Coronado as part of requirements for their Advanced Resort Management course. They received an excellent introduction to the resort industry by attending the Annual Resort Conference, which is co-hosted by HSMAI. Also in attendance was the HSMAI Mid-South Chapter scholarship winner, Camille Elder (KWS Alumni).
