HSMAI Member Update - Summer 2008 - (Page 9) memberupdate HSMAI Certifications Update HSMAI’s CRME (Certified Revenue Management Executive) and CHSC (Certified in Hospitality Sales Competencies) have developed into industry standards, with a large and growing cadre of top experts in the industry who have achieved these prestigious certifications. To these, HSMAI has added the new certification CHBA, Certified in Hospitality Business Acumen. Pre-qualification requirements for the new CHBA include experience in the industry as well as a certificate of completion of the two unique training courses jointly offered by HSMAI University and Lynn University, “Managing Business Results” and “Managing Revenue.” Both courses are given in March and September in Boca Raton, Florida. The CHSC and the CRME are now nearly two years old, and there are professionals who hold certifications throughout the U.S. and in several countries. There are currently 56 CRMEs, 49 CHSCs, and 1 CHBA. The CRME designation is recognition that you are: • A professional in the field of revenue management and clearly conversant with its intricacies and importance; • Competent to develop an infrastructure to support revenue management within the framework of an organization; • Able to maximize revenue opportunities and optimize profits by managing revenue; • Capable of making informed decisions to accept or reject pieces of business to meet overall organizational goals; • Proficient at the art and science of revenue management. A CHSC designation will indicate that you are a professional who has attained an expertise in your career, increasing your value to your employers, maximizing your confidence, and improving the industry by raising performance standards, practices, and ethics. The certification is recognition that you have demonstrated: • A high level of performance and knowledge; • A commitment to impeccable standards and ethics; • An understanding of what it takes to compete and succeed in the hospitality industry; • A strong leadership ability and management skills. HSMAI Foundation Names 2008 Scholarship Award Winners Five students pursuing careers in hospitality sales and marketing have been awarded scholarships from the Foundation of the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International, sponsored by American Express. The 2008 recipients are: • Kristin Bartholomew will receive her Bachelor of Science in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management from the University of Delaware in May, 2009. She is currently the president of HSMAI’s student chapter at the University of Delaware. • Roland Bbalo will receive his Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management from Drexel University in the summer of 2009. His hospitality experience includes night auditor at The Union League in Philadelphia, sales coordinator and guest services agent at the Omni Hotel and guest services agent at the Latham Hotel, both in Philadelphia. • Benjamin Garcia expects to earn his Bachelor of Science in Sports and Entertainment Event Management at Johnson & Wales University in Denver, Colorado in February, 2011. • Karen Hsu holds a BA with Honors from the College of Communication Arts & Sciences at Michigan State University and expects to earn her MBA in Marketing & Hospitality Business from Michigan State in May 2009. She is president of the HSMAI student chapter at the University and a Habitat for Humanity Global Village volunteer. • Marla Juarez will receive her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Texas at San Antonio in May, 2009. Her major is in marketing with a tourism concentration. She is the secretary of the HSMAI student chapter at the University. The recipients will be honored at the HSMAI Adrian Awards Gala on January 26, 2009. Information regarding the 2009 HSMAI Foundation scholarship program will be available later this year.
