Just the thought of it produces clear images of bare feet, colorful shave ice, perfect waves and sun-kissed beaches. This rural area is a surfer's paradise during the big waves of winter and a colorful place for sightseeing year-round. Waimea Valley HTJ Enjoy the 3.5-mile self-guided nature walk through a rain forest and botanical garden to see rare and endangered Hawaiian flora and fauna. You'll be rewarded with a view of beautiful 40-foot Waimea Falls. Pearl Harbor A U.S. Navy shuttle boat will transport you to the USS Arizona Memorial, which sits above the famous battleship that was sunk on December 7, 1941. Also visit the Pacific Aviation Museum, the USS Missouri Memorial and the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum, which features a restored World War II sub. CHUCK PAINTEr ‘Iolani Palace Tour the building and grounds that served as the monarch's residence until the dethroning of Queen Lili‘uokalani in 1893. Restored to its royal magnificence, it is one of the only royal palaces in the U.S. Nu‘uanu Pali Lookout This is one of O‘ahu’s better lookouts, with sweeping views of the windward side of the island. King Kamehameha and his warriors defeated O‘ahu’s armies here by forcing them over the steep cliffs in 1795. L eahi (Diamond Head) ¯ State Monument Climb to the top of Leahi (Diamond ¯ Head) crater and enjoy panoramic views of the leeward side of O‘ahu.
