IN BRIEF In a transaction valued at more than $3.5 billion, Greenwich, Conn.based third-party logistics provider XPO Logistics Inc. has agreed to acquire Norbert Dentressangle SA, a logistics firm headquartered in Lyon, France. In a separate deal, XPO Logistics announced a definitive agreement to acquire Charlotte, N.C.-based drayage provider Bridge Terminal Transport Services Inc. for $100 million. Chicago-based Echo Global Logistics has agreed to acquire Skokie, Ill.-based truckload freight brokerage firm Command Transportation LLC for $420 million. Via its CMA CGM LOG subsidiary, CMA CGM America Inc. parent CMA CGM Group has, for an undisclosed sum, acquired a strategic stake in LCL Logistix, a freight forwarding firm headquartered in Mumbai. Penske Logistics LLC has completed acquisition of third-party logistics provider Transfreight North America from Mitsui & Co. in a deal for which terms were not revealed. In a transaction for which financial terms were not disclosed, BNSF Railway Co. unit BNSF Logistics has acquired the wind turbine transport assets of Chicagobased third-party logistics provider Vectora Transportation. Wood Creek Capital Management LLC has bought an ownership interest in Tiger Cool Express LLC, which has announced plans to acquire 300 additional refrigerated containers to bring its fleet size to 735 units by year-end. Maersk Line is in talks with South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering on a $1.5 billion order for 10 new containerships, each to have a capacity of about 20,000 twenty-foot-equivalent units. Zim Integrated Shipping Services Ltd. is offering a new transSuez Canal service linking Asia with the U.S. East Coast, including calls at the Georgia Port Authority's Port of Savannah and the Port of Virginia in Norfolk. The Panama Canal Authority has received approval from Panama's cabinet council to offer volumebased discounts for containerships under a new toll schedule to take effect in April 2016. Canadian National Railway Co. is spending more than $400 million on infrastructure and safety improvements on Western Canada lines as part of a $2.7 billion capital investment plan. Union Pacific Railroad is investing $119 million in improved tracks and related projects in Illinois, has budgeted $109 million for track CSX Transportation has formally unveiled its 89-acre intermodal facility in Salaberry-deValleyfield, Québec. BNSF Railway Co. and CSX Transportation have extended through 2021 their respective contracts with railroad tie manufacturer Koppers Inc. Con-way Multimodal sister firm Con-way Truckload is acquiring 635 new twin-screw tractors, each equipped with an automated manual transmission. RoadOne IntermodaLogistics has instituted a referral program offering financial incentives to intermodal drivers for recruiting and supporting independent contractor truckers. Kalmar has received orders to deliver a total of 58 Kalmar Ottawa terminal tractors, five reachstackers and four rubber-tired gantry cranes to International Terminal Container Services Inc. terminals in the Philippines. Also, Kalmar has gained an order for 11 reachstackers and 16 forklift trucks to go to six locations in Algeria.
