Onboard Video Systems Backed A report from the National Transportation Safety Board supports the deployment of onboard video systems in commercial vehicles such as heavy trucks and buses. Audit Examining FMCSA Processes The Office of the Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Transportation is auditing the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's investigative practices for high-risk carriers. The stated objective of the audit, announced May 5, is "to assess FMCSA's processes for ensuring that reviews of motor carriers flagged for investigation are timely and adequate." Carrier Practices May Be Rewarded The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is seeking public comment on potential development of a Beyond Compliance program to incentivize motor carriers to voluntarily implement best practices for safety that transcend regulatory requirements. In an April 23 Federal Register notice, the agency gave a June 22 deadline for comments and noted that the program would not offer regulatory relief.
