New IANA Board Member Roundtables Announced for O&M Meeting Taking place this year in Lombard, Ill., IANA's Intermodal Operations & Maintenance Business Meeting will offer multiple opportunities to engage in the industry's most pressing O&M issues. The event will be held May 3-5 at the Westin Lombard Yorktown Center. Four facilitated roundtables are at the center of the problem-solving this spring: Dean Piacente, vice president, intermodal at CSX Transportation, has joined the IANA Board to represent the rail division. IANA's Scholarship Award Program Expanded IANA's Board of Directors has approved proposals submitted by College of Charleston, Georgia Southern University and Old Dominion University, granting each school an initial oneyear IANA Scholarship Award. Funding at the schools will be used for student tuition support, enhancement of academic curriculum related to freight and intermodal transportation, and study trips to major intermodal facilities. The three schools will join the University of Maryland, the University of North Florida, the University of North Texas and the University of Wisconsin - Superior, bringing the total number of undergraduate schools supported by IANA's Scholarship Award Program to seven. The eighth school and only graduate degree awardee is the Transportation Institute at the University of Denver. Since 2006, the Association's scholarship program has awarded more than $1.3 million to support students in university programs focused on freight transportation. The Annual Golf Outing, intermodal facility tours, Supplier Showcase and Networking Reception, and committee meetings round out the three days of collaborative programming. For roundtable descriptions and the full program schedule, see the events page at UMD Students to Conduct Membership Survey IANA members will soon receive a survey from University of Maryland students designed to measure overall satisfaction with the association's programs and identify industry issues of key interest to intermodal stakeholders. The survey is being done as part of the University's IANA Scholarship Award Program and will generate ideas for potential future research projects in which the students can engage. Students are nominated to conduct independent intermodal industry-wide research by Robert H. Smith School of Business faculty members who provide mentorship throughout the semester. The Smith School Office of Career Services also developed the Intermodal Job Portal as one of its scholarship activities last year.
