INTERMODAL INFORMATION SERVICES
Information Services
Enhancements, UIIA Addenda
Additional enhancements to several
programs continue to be delivered
to Intermodal Information Services
participants by IANA.
The latest changes include:

UIIA Enhancements
Ů 1WVUVCPFKPI'SWKROGPV0QVKƒECVKQP
* Additional Motor Carrier Contacts
Street Interchange Enhancements
* New Quick Street Turn

* Upgrading the UIIA application

* Edit, Cancel, Re-Initiate

* Streamlining of the Street Interchange
Application

* Multiple Containers, One Request

* Adding features to the Global Intermodal
Equipment Registry, or GIER
* Making the Bad Order Equipment Status,
or BOES, service fully operational.
"The goal of these latest enhancements
is to make our services more user-friendly
KPQTFGTVQHCEKNKVCVGGHƒEKGPE[CPFVQ
streamline business processes," said
Debbie Sasko, assistant vice president of
information services.
A new UIIA application upgrade provides
a mechanism for equipment providers
to notify motor carriers of interchanged
equipment that hasn't been returned. The
application alerts motor carriers via email
with a list of the outstanding equipment
CPFQHHGTUCPGHƒEKGPVOGVJQFVQTGEQPEKNG
equipment while assisting in the prevention
of unnecessary per diem billings to motor
carriers.
In addition, another new feature recently
made available to UIIA motor carrier
participants is the ability to create additional
contacts within their account and designate

individuals should receive. This enables the
routing of UIIA notices to the appropriate
contact within a trucker's organization.

method to identify the proper person to
discuss billing and other matters.

'Quick Street Turn'
The Street Interchange Application has
been streamlined for transactions when
a motor carrier uses the same box for an
export move after delivering an import
without returning it to a terminal. The new
"Quick Street Turn" feature facilitates this
RTQEGUUD[TGFWEKPIVJGPWODGTQHƒGNFU
that the motor carrier must provide from ten
to four, Sasko said.
Other recently added features include

* Expanded Timeframe
GIER Enhancements
* New Chassis Fields for IEP Fleet
Analysis
* Expanded Inspection Data
* Automated Inspection Date
Reminders
* New BOES Yes/No Flag
* Container Registration
* New Container Public Inquiry
* M&R Vendors Inspection Registration
* New ReportMas
edit, cancel and re-initiate functionalities
to allow users more flexibility with street
interchange and street turn requests. Users
also have the ability now to submit multiple
containers under a single request.
The 24-hour timeframe for processing
requests submitted over a weekend has
been changed to not begin until Monday
morning to allow users more time to act
upon these requests and avoid unnecessary
rejections.
The BOES service has become
operational at four BNSF Railway facilities,
including Alliance in the Dallas-Fort Worth
region as well as facilities in the Kansas City,
Houston and Denver areas. It is expected
to be rolled out throughout the entire BNSF
network in the coming months. In addition
to BNSF Railway, current BOES subscribers
include TRAC Intermodal, Consolidated
Chassis Management and P & B Intermodal.
The GIER application has also recently
been enhanced to include California BIT
inspection data, as well as the ability for
users to maintain FMCSA annual inspection
data within the database. In addition,
chassis inspection forms and inspector

uploaded and stored in GIER. Registration

include containers, as well as additional

analysis.
An additional feature integrates GIER
and BOES. If a piece of equipment is bad
ordered in BOES for any reason, including
an inspection lapse, the equipment will be
red flagged in GIER. Likewise, as the repair
is reported into BOES, the GIER flag will be
removed.
IANA has developed new application
programming interfaces for all of its
services. "These new APIs provide an
alternative to electronic data interchange

customers to receive/access data
necessary to perform their daily business
operations," said Sasko, explaining that
IANA is reaching out to its customers to
explain the advantages and process of
APIs.
Information Services has conducted
several webinars to outline the changes
described above. These can be accessed
on IANA's website in the "Recent Webinars"
section.
