performance data to direct the focus of
committee activities. Creech said it was
especially important to concentrate on
the areas that have the most room for
improvement based on FMCSA data,

He emphasized the work IANA has
done over the last several years in terms
of data collection and analysis has been
and will continue to be especially helpful in
this regard.

The committee also is considering
other potential and real-time changes. One
is how the manufacturing of new chassis
will affect maintenance and repair, since
there are multiple manufacturers and
there are questions about standardization
and the quality of replacement parts.

so that we don't have to worry about

on chassis, which can cause problems
for the motor carrier community and
increased cost for the IEPs in redundant
maintenance work.
Another question mark is how to
address the uneven distribution of
roadside inspections that lead to national
industry averages that are skewed
somewhat by the results from California
and Texas. Both of those states have
sizable enforcement programs, the results
of which have led to out-of-service rates
in those jurisdictions that are below the
industry averages.

increases in committee participation and
engagement by subject matter experts
and experienced leaders with the willingness to commit time and energy to aid the
industry's development. The Mechanics
Training Task Force has done an excellent
job at bringing in subject matter experts
to aid in the execution of its work plan,
which has also resulted in increased
membership. Committee leaders indicated
that as long as the committee remains
focused on those items that will help solve
problems for the industry, it will increase
engagement and action, which will result
in more value for members.
