automatic tire inflation, LED lights and ABS
brakes.
Additional data fields have also been
added, including the CA BIT inspection,
allowing an IEP to upload this information in
GIER and be automatically notified 30 days
in advance of upcoming DOT periodic inspection expiration dates. This enables the
IEP to proactively avoid lapses in inspection
dates on its equipment inventory.
GIER has also been expanded to offer
container registration, allowing container
fleet files to be managed within the centralized database.

New Users Added
In addition, a new group of users -
M&R vendors - was introduced to GIER.
Those vendors as well as inspectors can

now register for GIER in order to update
inspection data on behalf of IEPs.
Webinars providing an overview of
the enhancements to both the BOES and
GIER applications will be held at the end
of October. Information on how to register
for these webinars can be found at www.
intermodal.org under the Events tab.
The three major ocean carriers and a
domestic chassis provider are now using
other IIS services to broaden their offerings
and enhance efficiency for their customers.
Hyundai Merchant Marine has begun
using the Street Interchange Application
throughout North America, gaining the ability to match up equipment moves to the
benefit of the company as well as motor
carriers and its customers.

In addition, Hapag-Lloyd is expanding
its pilot program with the SIA to include
Southeast and Gulf ports, and Yang Ming
continues its use of the SIA in the New
York/New Jersey region.
In another equipment related move,
IANA is currently working with Milestone
Equipment Company LLC and Milestone
Chassis Company LLC to become Equipment Provider participants in the UIIA.
"We are pleased that Milestone, as a
chassis provider, recognizes the benefits of
the UIIA program and both of the Milestone
companies will be welcome additions to
the UIIA," Sasko said.
