he IBAO Board of Directors is comprised
of 13 volunteers, one from each Territory,
as well as the President, Vice President
and Chair, who form the Executive. Once
elected to the Board, each Director serves a threeyear term. As a portion of the roster changes, new
ideas and priorities are infused into the Board, while
remaining members maintain a stabilizing sense of
continuity. Though the makeup of the group changes
over time, their values, goals and ambitions are
shared by the people who are driven to contribute.
Volunteering on the Board is a commitment that
requires dedicated time, attention and energy.
Inevitably something the people who become
members have in common is a calling to serve
the greater good. The new Territory 10 Director
Joseph Carnivale has a history of public service and
leadership. Previously Joseph was a Trustee and
Chair of the Toronto Catholic School Board, worked
for a Federal Cabinet Minister and currently sits on
the Complaints Committee for RIBO. "I've always
felt a need to help the public and my community. I'm
very comfortable stepping up and standing up for
people," says Joseph. "I'm very fortunate to be able
to spend some of my time doing this."
Many of the Directors have previously served at the
Affiliate level or as a YBC Team Leader, like Territory
12 Director Daniel Cook. Daniel was introduced to
YBC by one of its founders, IBAO President Brian
Purcell. "I loved it. That's the best thing I've done
in this industry - being involved with YBC." Daniel
also served as the President of his
local Chamber of Commerce and to
him the next step was to be involved
with the IBAO Board. "I want to do
whatever I can to best represent the
members in my territory and help
the broker channel."
Protecting the future interest of
the broker channel is a driving
motivation for the brokers who
join the Board. "We're facing
unprecedented challenges in our
industry. My goal is to further
root the importance of brokers in
the community and promote what
we are to clients," says Territory 5
Director Kyle Macdonald.
Keeping pace with technology and
the evolution of the industry is
central to the Board's mandate,
but it's also a personal passion of
many of its members. Territory 9
