France consistently holds the lead when it comes to consumption, with 34 million hectoliters, or 14.1 percent of all the wine in the world, in 2006. It’s interesting to note that while China has the largest volume (it surpassed the US in 2005), its per capita consumption only stands at 26.3 liters, significantly lower than the Top 20. Growth in the distilled spirits market is determined, in large part, by the performance of the largest national markets.
