The lights in St. Petersburg, Russia are about to shine a lot brighter thanks to a planned scenographic lighting installment that will illuminate the tallest tower in Russia’s majestic city. Russian Standard, one of Russia’s fastest growing companies and the makers of Russian Standard premium vodka, has pledged a major gift to the city of St. Petersburg by making a multi-million dollar contribution to the project. As part of the installation, the Imperial capital’s 305-meter TV tower, the city’s tallest tower, will be adorned with 6,000 stroboscopic flash lights programmed for a spectacular light show. Construction on the tower has already begun and the project is expected to be completed before the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, June 6-8, which is expected to draw thousands of Russian and international business leaders and government officials to the city. Russian Standard founder and chairman Roustam Tariko said the project was a good fit for the company as Russian Standard was born in St. Petersburg. “We are thrilled to be a part of this iconic project in Russia’s most iconic city,” he said. Renowned architect Willem Brouwer, who also designed Russian Standard’s state-of-the-art vodka distillery, is designing the lighting project, which will be mounted on the high lattice steel TV tower. The custom lighting design will have a set of dynamically moving light rays that will localize the tower from a distance. The tower will acquire an architectural shape and identity thanks to a color changing façade illumination, the architect explained. “The result [of the project] is not the illumination of the tower, but the perception of a different tower—a recognizable icon that belongs to St. Petersburg’s color rich historical environment and identifies with it in a modern way, projecting towards its future,” Brouwer said.
