By Bob Deierlein I t’s been another busy season of truck industry shows. Here are some of the important product and service introductions from the Mid-America Truck Show, the Work Truck Show and The Technology & Maintenance Council’s Annual Meeting. with DoubleSix parts and accessories, a new online truck configurator launched at InternationalTrucks.com/LoneStar, that allows fleets to create their own LoneStar by selecting various colors, chrome parts and accessories. Customized images of the trucks can be e-mailed to friends and International dealers. Navistar also announced it leads in medium-duty truck sales, having sold more Class 6 and 7 trucks than any other brand in 2007 for the 18th straight year. Its DuraStar trucks, formerly the 4000 Series, are proving to be a popular choice for many large fleets, as well as smaller businesses that may have only one or two International trucks. The DuraStar’s MaxxForce engines meet 2007 emissions standards, but also can achieve fuel economy improvements of up to 13 percent, depending on the engine model. Freightliner announced new factoryinstalled options for its Class 8 vehicles: MeritorWABCO Electronic Stability Control and the Eaton VORAD Collision warning System. The stability control product combines with roll stability control to protect the vehicle when directional control conditions require it. VORAD helps drivers identify traffic conditions in advance with in-cab alerts for slowmoving vehicles, stationary objects and short following distance warnings. Kenworth extended the availability of its Kenworth Clean Power no-idle system to its W900 and T800 models. The system uses dedicated, advanced deep-cycle batteries that power a thermal storage cooler with 21,000 BTUs of cooling capacity. It also has the capability to provide engine-off cooling and heating, plus 120-volt power for hotel loads. The company also announced plans to introduce medium duty diesel-electric hybrid trucks into full production this summer. And, it unveiled new front and rear suspensions for its heavy and medium duty truck models, saying the AG210L single-axle rear suspension is an economical choice for its Class 6 and 7 conventional models. Also, its new Kenworth Driver Information Center empowers the driver BEVERAGEWORLD.COM Navistar brought three configurations of its new LoneStar to the MidAmerica Trucking Show: the LoneStar Day Cab, Sleeper and the Aero Sleeper. The company says the tractors are designed to combine fuel economy with looks, efficiency, comfort, functionality and productivity. A major theme is customization and Navistar Parts announced an exclusive new line of parts called “DoubleSix Customs.” The line consists of an initial offering of 40 interior and exterior parts specifically developed for LoneStar.
