feature IEEE Region 1’s Southern Area held its third annual Innovation Day (ID2011) on 17 May 2011, at the Polytechnic Institute of New York University in Brooklyn, N.Y. Its purpose was to bring local engineers, researchers, industry leaders, educators, and students under one roof for the advancement of engineering, networking and knowledge sharing. Collaborative events, like this conference, inspire society-changing ideas for improvement in engineering innovation. Students, researchers, faculty and industry professionals engaged in the disciplines of electrical, computer, electronics, and communications engineering, as well as computer science, enjoyed inspired and relevant seminars by a variety of accomplished speakers. This year’s event included sessions on innovation in industry and technology; innovation for globalization; and a panel on innovation in professional advancement and enrichment. Speakers discussed the key areas in need of innovation, and about how innovation was driving change in different fields and the outcomes of those changes.
