Inland Empire Golfer - March 2008 - (Page 21) DOING YOUR PART TO CONSERVE CAN EARN YOU REBATES: A number of water efficiency rebates are available for commercial buildings, restaurants, hotels/motels, markets, laundromats, landscapes, and new construction. Rebates are available for • Large Rotary Nozzles: $13 per set • Synthetic Turf: $0.30 per sq. ft. • Smart Controllers: $630 per acre • Rotating Nozzles for Pop-up Spray Head: $4 per nozzle Call (877) 728-2282, or visit the www.mwdsaveabuck.com for details on additional rebates, or visit your water agencies web site. THE BOTTOM LINE: The Inland Empire enjoys a large pool of water conservation experts united in a common goal to bring reliable water to customers. I found them enthusiastic and eager to share their stories, and I invite the readership to do the same. The golf superintendents I spoke with are stewards of a scarce resource not only due to economic necessity, but because the leadership of USGA, SCGA and GCSASC understands the water situation and embraces collaboration and cooperation in leaning forward to mitigate a looming water shortage. According to Public Information and Conservative Representative Pam Pavela, of the Western Municipal Water District, golf courses are 70 to 80 percent water efficient versus 30 to 60 percent efficiency for private residences. Below are a handful of resource agencies and Web sites with additional information to benefit all stakeholders in best practices for a safe and secure water supply for current and future needs. Metropolitan Water District and its member agencies encourage water conservation and is a ready source of information: www.mwdh2o.com and www.bewaterwise.org Eastern Municipal Water District offers free residential water surveys to their customers.
