Inland Empire Golfer - March 2008 - (Page 38) COURSE REVIEW Redhawk Golf Club A True Challenge For The Best Golfers Yet Fun For All Levels Of Play T o say Redhawk is a beast from the tips is probably an understatement. Stretched to its full length of 7,018 yards, it plays to a rating of 75.1 and slope of 145. When the wind blows, breaking 80 becomes an adventure. This is a wonderfully diverse and challenging layout if you play from the blues (around 6600 yards) or, for old guys like me, the whites at 6100. If you are an aspiring touring pro or masochist (or both), tee it up from the tips. But don’t say I didn’t warn you. In my opinion, it’s all good golf at Redhawk: quick greens, manicured fairways, penal rough, consistent bunkers, and strategic water hazards provides a consistent test of one’s shot making abilities. A full grass driving range with target greens and a practice bunker, plus two large undulating putting greens provides a true feel for the course. Redhawk is a full service facility with a well-stocked golf shop, a friendly staff, professional instruction and a varied selection of food in the restaurant round out the Redhawk experience. Green fees range from $30 (CSC Super Twilight) to $90 for weekends/holidays. Power carts with GPS systems are included in these bargain rates. Annual memberships are also available. In addition to the Champions Tour Qualifier, Redhawk is the ongoing host club for the California State Open. The Temecula Valley, with several championship courses, is one of Southern California’s golf destinations. Redhawk is its shining star and offers a golf day you won’t soon forget. Overall Rating: 9 of 10. IEG ~ By Steve Thorwald 45100 Redhawk Pkwy, Temecula 92592 • Tee Times: (951) 302-3850 - www.redhawkgolfclub.com Landmark At Hemet Golf Club Quality Golf at Reasonable Green Fees weaving between and over 43 strategically placed bunkers and several menacing water hazards, you might think you are in for a Wild West shoot-out. Far from it, as this course is much more fun than perilous. Although, be warned, the par-5 13th, aptly named Sourwood Mountain, will test your game to the max even though it only plays 475 from the Blues. My favorite hole is #6, a 366 yard, par-4 that offers the ultimate risk-reward option. It doglegs sharply left from the tee and is OB the entire left side. Bite off the corner with about a 225-yard carry and you’ll have a wedge in. Aim too far left and you are reloading. With greens fees from $29 to $59 including power carts with GPS, Landmark at Hemet golf course is a real bargain. And, thanks to clever wooden coyote cutouts, coot poop stays away from the greens. If you enjoy a straightforward, well-conditioned course with quick bent/poa annua greens, make tracks for Landmark at Hemet. It’s definitely worth the drive. Overall ~ By Steve Thorwald Rating: 8.5 of 10. IEG I first played Landmark at Hemet Golf Club shortly after it opened and was impressed, first and foremost, with the overall course routing. It was formidable but, happily for me, not a back-breaker in length. For various reasons I had not returned until my review last month but again came away impressed. The centerpiece of the K.Hovnanian Four Seasons golf community, Landmark at Hemet golf course is routed through handsome neighborhoods that do not intrude on your overall golf experience. According to General Manager Ed Perez, they went through a rough patch last fall, but with a talented new Greens Superintendent, are rapidly returning to the “pristine conditions” claimed on their phone-announcement. With holes named Horse Thief Canyon, The Gambler, Desert Justice, Rattle Snake Ridge, and other western style handles, 7575 World Cup Dr, Hemet 92545 - (951) 926-4653 • www.hemetgolfclub.com 38 March 2008 INLAND EMPIRE GOLFER www.inlandempiregolfer.com http://www.redhawkgolfclub.com http://www.hemetgolfclub.com http://www.inlandempiregolfer.com
