Executive Housekeeping Today - Demo - (Page 2) executive corner Is Your Chapter Ready for Tomorrow? Compass and Encompass We have just returned from our District Convention, and instead of the last supper it was the inaugural ball! Based on what the Upper Midwest District has done in the past, we have paved the way for our future and it has been a success! Due to our achievements, here are a couple of tips you can use to create a successful meeting: *Positive Planning: Use the expertise of your members when assigning responsibility. BE PROACTIVE, INVITE OTHER CHAPTERS, and EXPAND YOUR HORIZONS! Other things to think about when planning: What is your market? What are some hot educational topics? Answering these questions and applying them to your meetings are a sure way to make them a hit. *Participation: Get to know the people who attend. Make sure you recognize members and develop a relationship with them. You should have one committee member responsible for developing an e-mail address book and e-mail blasts should be sent throughout the year to both members and vendors. Every chapter that wishes to reap the benefits of the endeavor should be compiling lists, sharing lists, and mailing to these lists. Education is the key to a successful meeting. I cannot reiterate enough how important your vendors and w Paving the Way for the “New” I.E.H.A. through Positive Planning and Participation manufacturers are. Keep them in the loop! If you do a newsletter, invite vendor members to advertise. Monthly chapter meetings could even have a “Vendor Corner,” where they could speak about their products. Your vendors should be an intricate part of your chapter. If you view Section III, page 1 and forward of I.E.H.A.’s Chapter Leadership Manual, you will find many suggestions for a positive meeting experience. Well-conducted and informative chapter meetings should be the main objective for every chapter. Remember that for the majority of the membership, a chapter meeting is the only opportunity a member has to hear a technical and/or management-related presentation and informally discuss problems or solutions with others within the housekeeping industry. The chapter meeting is, therefore, the most vital activity for the membership, chapter, and growth of I.E.H.A. In conclusion, you too can build a relationship with your vendors, manufacturers, and neighboring chapters, allowing you to recruit members, educate, and build your treasury. But most of all, you can and will make lasting friendships that only a great organization like I.E.H.A. can promote. INTERNATIONAL EXECUTIVE HOUSEKEEPERS ASSOCIATION, INC.
