Executive Housekeeping Today - January 2008 - (Page 14) I.E.H.A.’s 41st Educational Conference and Convention Wrap-Up On October 22-26, 2007, the International Executive Housekeepers Association (I.E.H.A.) held an exciting and informative 41st Annual Educational Conference and Convention, in conjunction with ISSA/INTERCLEAN®, at the International Plaza Resort and Spa and the Orange County Convention Center in sunny Orlando, Florida. Over 350 I.E.H.A. members registered for the event and, according to ISSA, the tradeshow hosted 14,833 attendees overall. In addition, there were approximately 700 exhibitor booths for attendees to visit and learn about new and exhilarating products within the cleaning industry, including Green products, microfiber, and advanced floor machines, among others. The week kicked off with enlightening education sessions held all day at the Convention Center on Tuesday, October 23. Some of the topics included: “How Investing in the Science of Management Leads to Cleaning Success,” “Don’t Eat the Marshmallow Yet: The Secret to Sweet Success in Work and Life,” “How to Construct a Manageable Budget,” and “Beyond Green Cleaning: Advanced Environmental Discussions for Executives.” Many I.E.H.A. members also attended the all-industry networking luncheon, Tuesday at noon, and enjoyed meeting and sharing with others throughout the cleaning industry. Several of our members were moderators during the luncheon, including Madeline Chang of the Hawaii Chapter; Eric Bates, Association Secretary/Treasurer; Tom Jones, President of the Las Vegas Chapter; and Beth Risinger, CEO/Executive Director. Tuesday evening brought the o by Laura M. DiGiulio, Editor New Member Welcome Reception, which occurred at the International Plaza. Approximately 25 new members attended this event and were welcomed into the I.E.H.A. family. The President’s Welcome Reception and Caribbean Pool Party followed the new member welcome at 6:30 p.m. This event was very well-attended and well-received— the atmosphere was relaxing, the weather was beautiful, the buffet was delicious, and the Z-Street band was top-notch. “This year’s President’s Welcome was one of the best we’ve ever had,” says Bill Parshall of the Puget Sound Chapter. “The music and food were excellent and it was a perfect setting around the pool. I overheard many positive comments regarding the event.” We would like to thank our sponsors, Tecni-quip, Wexford Labs, Indoor Environment Solutions, and Corporate Express, for allowing us to host such a successful reception! On Wednesday morning, October 24, the exhibit hall floor officially opened at the Orange County Convention Center, with the ribbon-cutting ceremony occurring at 10:15 a.m. Attendees were then able to explore the exhibit booths for new products and ideas, or attend more education sessions. From 10:30 a.m. to noon, District meetings were held at the Convention Center for I.E.H.A. members to meet and network with others from their area. This event was followed by the highly-anticipated I.E.H.A. Cleaning Industry Panel, which occurred from 1-3 p.m. at the Convention Center. Approximately 150 I.E.H.A. members attended this informative discussion regarding I.E.H.A. members enjoyed the buffet dinner and networking with old friends during the President’s Welcome Reception and Caribbean Pool Party that occurred on Monday night. Described as one of the best I.E.H.A. welcome receptions ever, this event was one of the most popular of the week. 4 Executive Housekeeping Today/January 2008
