Executive Housekeeping Today - January 2008 - (Page 15) convention wrap-up the similarities and differences between four segments of the cleaning industry; including healthcare, hospitality, contract cleaning, and educational facilities. “I found the I.E.H.A. Cleaning Industry Panel experience most rewarding,” says Madeline Chang of the Hawaii Chapter. “With the many activities that were available at the Convention, this was a perfect setting to ‘talk story’ with people I have not had the opportunity to meet. We discussed many issues that crossover into different segments of the cleaning industry; including staffing shortages, finding the right person for the job, applicants who may feel they are ready to fill the managerial positions, but lack the managerial experience, and liability issues. There were many suggestive topics given to us and I’m sure we could have continued for hours. It was a great event and should definitely be considered for future Conventions.” Thank you to I.E.H.A. members Harry Kendrick, R.E.H., Director of Housekeeping Services at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire; Debra Archbald, C.E.H., Assistant Executive Housekeeper at The Peabody Orlando in Orlando, Florida; John Poole, R.E.H., experienced contract cleaner from American Building Maintenance in Acworth, Georgia; and Chris Kopach, Associate Director of Facilities Management at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona, for providing such insightful presentations! Many members headed back to the International Plaza on Wednesday evening to attend the Peer-to-Peer Networking Reception and the I.E.H.A. Business Session, as they were able to chat with their peers over cookies and drinks before getting down to business! The Business Session was the most exciting and anticipated The I.E.H.A. Cleaning Industry Panel that occurred on Wednesday afternoon was one of the most insightful events of the week. The Business Session closed with a fun finale as the Peabody ducks marched around the room to add to the enthusiasm. Excitement definitely filled the air as members poured out of the Business Meeting room, as everyone is excited to enter into the new era of I.E.H.A.! Thursday morning, October 25, many Convention attendees enjoyed the ISSA Keynote speech given by Newt Gingrich. The tradeshow floor was then open all day for attendees to walk around and enjoy the innovations or attend education sessions. Some I.E.H.A. members opted to attend the CEH/REH Review and Exam at the Convention Center Thursday afternoon in order to gain or renew their status. The Convention Center drew to a close that evening (continued on next page) January 2008/Executive Housekeeping Today 5
