Executive Housekeeping Today - January 2008 - (Page 17) Board Briefing I.E.H.A. Board of Directors Fall Board Meeting October 22, 2007 of EHT in the spring. Sherry Sidwell, Membership Growth/Awards Chair, shared that several awards would be presented to the following: • North Louisiana Chapter: First Place, Superior Chapter Achievement Award • Maingate Chapter: Second Place, Superior Chapter Achievement Award • Packer Valley Chapter: Third Place, Superior Chapter Achievement Award • Hawaii Chapter: First Place, Spirit Award • Indiana Chapter: Runner-up, Spirit Award Co-Chairs of the Convention/ Trade Show Committee, Linda Dueno-Dufek and Wayne Bledy, were pleased to announce that there were 670 booth spaces taken for this particular show, along with an attendance of over 14,000. They applauded ISSA for their excellent success and positively reinforced our relationship with them. They also shared that the educational seminars slated for this event were excellent and well-focused for end-users. President Hicks announced his excitement over the two new books that I.E.H.A. now offers: “Cleaning with Kip Koala,” developed by the I.E.H.A. staff, and “Frugalisms: Creative Ideas on Leadership in Facilities and Housekeeping Operations,” by Alan Bigger and composed by members of the I.E.H.A. staff. He was also pleased and elated to be able to share I.E.H.A.’s involvement with the Housekeeping Channel® and it’s President, Allen Rathey; and the virtual presentation of EHT with the membership during the Business Session. The Board was extremely proud of all the accomplishments! President Hicks announced that he has appointed Past-President of I.E.H.A. Gene Woodard, as the 2008 Nominating Committee Chair for the new political landscape I.E.H.A. will be implementing in September 2008. The current Board members elected David Crowell, EID; MaryAnn Washington, PSWD; Sandy Smith, UMWD; and Faye McMaster, SWD as additional members of the Nominating Committee. Eric Bates provided information regarding the EPA and their proposed concept of training for workers who apply antimicrobials. He shared with the board members that this initiative had been defeated this past July, most likely due to the knowledge of Bill Balek, legal counsel for ISSA. President Hicks stated that this is another of the terrific benefits that we receive due to our alliance with ISSA. The I.E.H.A. Board of Directors met on October 22, 2007, at the International Plaza Resort and Spa in Orlando, Florida, during I.E.H.A.’s 41st Educational Conference and Convention. President J. Darrel Hicks welcomed all and shared his thanks to each for their futuristic and positive outlook towards I.E.H.A. Secretary/Treasurer Eric Bates presented the 2006-07 audit, and stated that all reports were in accordance with general accounting principals. The Board approved of the audit results. (Please refer to the 2007 Audit on the next page). With the District reports, it was noted that several Chapters were to be placed on probation. In addition, eight Chapter charters were relinquished due to inactivity. (Should you wish to receive a list of these Chapters, please contact the Association office). The Board approved an honorary R.E.H. certificate to Richard Coulter, an 82-year-old dedicated member of I.E.H.A. Mr. Coulter was a previous member of the Massachusetts Chapter. He will be recognized with a pin, a letter from President Hicks, and a certificate for his many years of training in the housekeeping industry. Congratulations! Diana Ronning, Education Foundation Chair, announced that Ms. Kelly Brasier was awarded the Spartan Scholarship Award in the amount of $1,500. Congratulations, Kelly! Ronning also announced that the Foundation was developing new criteria for allocating ten (10) complimentary Self-Study programs annually.
