2007 International Housekeepers Week Celebrations! The Centre for Mountain Tourism & Hospitality Studies H.N.B at Garhwal University in India participated in this year’s IHW celebrations September 9-15, 2007, by providing a special lecture on housekeeping, cleaning a bridge and the adjoining area along the river Alaknanda (pictured below), cleaning the school campus, and presenting the students with appreciation certificates (pictured left). The hospitality professionals celebrated the week by conveying three basic messages: 1) Create Awareness, 2) Promote Housekeeping as a Profession, and 3) Divert Attention onto Conservation of Resources by Adapting Safe Housekeeping Practices. Goodwill in Colorado Springs, Colorado, has a contract with the United States Air Force Academy to clean the base’s buildings and dorms. Seventy-five percent of these employees have a documented disability and four employees are certified in executive housekeeping. In order to celebrate IHW this past September, the janitorial crew attended a barbecue picnic and played volleyball. The Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Southwestern Regional Medical Center in Tulsa, OK, celebrated their environmental services team during IHW. They held a luncheon with a special recognition ceremony, where several housekeepers were acknowledged for having perfect attendance; including, Karen Dennis, who has not missed a day of work for 11 years; Robert Bassham, with seven years perfect attendance; Jennifer Peters, perfect attendance for eight years; Emma Pink, four years perfect attendance; and Susan Bauer also received a perfect attendance award (pictured far left). James Baker, Mark Bassham, Lee Dennis, Rosa Forrester, Sean Kelly, Jaratsri (JK) Khongthae, and Linda Martin only missed one day during the last fiscal year (pictured left).
