Executive Housekeeping Today - January 2008 - (Page 21) At St. Andrews Estate North Retirement-Life Communities in Boca Raton, FL, the environmental services staff were invited to have lunch with residents who serve on the Environmental Service Residents Committee, who meet once a month with Environmental Services Director Marge Gearing. These residents serve as the eyes and ears of the community and their participation in this program helps Ms. Gearing tremendously. The luncheon was held in order to honor the staff for IHW week for their service in the community every day. Both staff and residents enjoyed the lunch, and each of the staff received a small token of thanks from Gearing. Also present at the luncheon was Mark Raynor, Executive Director of the community. The housekeeping department at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in Bermuda joined the international campaign recognizing the important contribution housekeepers make every day by planning a series of activities during International Housekeepers Week 2007. Executive Housekeeper Rosa Simons, Assistant Executive Housekeeper Shirlene Scott, and Supervisors Yvonne Duerr, Tobene Darrell, Sherrie Richards, and Maria Goater led the week’s events, based upon the theme, “We’re the Team Who Keeps it Clean.” Cabinet Minister of Health, the Hon. Michael Scott, along with the Deputy Chief Executive Officer for the Bermuda Hospitals Board (BHB), Venetta Symonds, launched the campaign on September 10, 2007 (pictured top). The week of activities included a display in the hospital lobby, tours of the department, a Powerpoint presentation, the announcement of Housekeeper of the Year, a luncheon for the entire staff, certificates of appreciation distributed to over 100 employees, special certificates distributed to 20 staff members for exceptional performance, and dramatic skits performed by the staff (pictured above). The Empire Hotel and Country Club in Brunei celebrated its team of housekeepers with a special event held on September 11, 2007. Present during the ceremony were key team leaders, including Manfred Keiler, General Manager; Angeline James, Shamsol Mustapa, and Azlan bin Hashim, Assistant Executive Housekeepers; and Tin Tin Mya, Human Resources and Employee Relations Manager. A total of 110 housekeeping team members attended the ceremony, which started off with a special message from Manfred Keiler, who thanked them for all their hard work and dedication. Each team member was delighted to receive a certificate of appreciation, a “thank you” card, and a special “thank you” cake. This was the first IHW celebration held in Brunei, a country located on the island of Borneo, in Southeast Asia. The environmental services team at Moorings Park in Naples, FL, a prestigious, upscale continuing care retirement community, recognized their janitors, housekeepers, and laundry personnel during this year’s IHW. The 44 employees enjoyed gifts and lunch in appreciation for their hard work and dedication. (continued on next page) January 2008/Executive Housekeeping Today 2
