Executive Housekeeping Today - March 2008 - (Page 14) Tim Chromzack: A Boyhood Dream Come True When Tim Chromzack was a young boy growing up in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, he and his friends would often find their way to the local zoo during their summer vacations away from school and make a day’s adventure out of it. As Chromzack grew up, he would reminisce about and long for those boyhood adventures he remembered so fondly. With a background like Chromzack’s, it’s no surprise that after his wife found an ad in the newspaper for a janitorial supervisor position with the Chicago Zoological Society at Brookfield Zoo, he jumped on the opportunity to apply. For Chromzack, it’s a combination of enthusiasm, continuing education, and 31 years experience in the housekeeping industry that has led him down the path to his boyhood dream and where he is today. Education, Experience, and Current Job Responsibilities When Chromzack was in high school in the 1970s, his first job was at a local hospital, cleaning patient rooms, kitchens, and surgery areas. It was at this job where he first learned the importance of a clean environment and an eye for detail when it came to cleaning. Overall, it was a good experience for him, but at that time, he did not know that he would enter into the housekeeping industry as a long-term career. When Chromzack first went to college, he was interested in becoming a printer, so he attended the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and received an Associate’s Degree in Graphic Arts. However, shortly after he earned his degree, he realized how much he enjoyed the field of manage- 4 Executive Housekeeping Today/March 2008
