Executive Housekeeping Today - March 2008 - (Page 2) executive corner Since its inception, I.E.H.A. has been focused on education, and 70-plus years later it is still our top priority! To that end, the Association established an Education Foundation to help people reach for educational milestones in their career development. As experienced mentors, we must build for our future and our future is in our youth. We must encourage the younger generations to WANT to be in this field, and offer them educational opportunities and scholarships in order to help them obtain either their certification or degree. I urge you to encourage someone on your staff, a peer, or a younger family member to apply for the scholarship opportunities provided by I.E.H.A. and, at the same time, encourage them to think about a career path in this industry. I.E.H.A. has several types of programs developed in order to help those interested in reaching a milestone in their education and within the cleaning industry. These include the C.E.H. and R.E.H. Self Study programs and the Frontline Program. Scholarships of up to $800, with a deadline of February 10th for applicants annually, are available to those who are pursuing a C.E.H. s The Importance of Educational Scholarships and Funding and R.E.H. certification through the Self Study program. For those enrolled in collegiate studies, we also have the Spartan Scholarship of $1,500 awarded in the fall of each year, with a September 10th deadline for applicants. The importance of these scholarships is simple really; we as an Association are building a foundation for the future. True, not everyone who receives a scholarship will be employed in our industry, but the chances are quite strong that they will be. Over and over I hear and read from our members about the importance of education and the opportunities that have come their way through I.E.H.A. Over the years, I.E.H.A. has granted over 300 scholarships to individuals and schools. What a benefit! This process is simply called “Paying it Forward.” Imagine this scenario: You go to your local drive-thru espresso stand, order your drink, and pay for the next person who comes through as well. We as an Association should and can do the same by supporting the I.E.H.A. Education Foundation fund. I encourage each of you to donate to this fund in order to benefit and build for the future of the cleaning industry.
