Executive Housekeeping Today - May 2008 - (Page 30) inside What I.E.H.A. Has Done For Me “When I was given the responsibility of overseeing the housekeeping department at my facility, I had no experience in housekeeping—my background was in food service. I.E.H.A. really helped me learn all aspects of the housekeeping business.” -Sara Ory, R.E.H. Director of Support Services Berlin Memorial Hospital Now It’s Your Turn! What has I.E.H.A. done for YOU lately? If you would like to contribute to this monthly column, please send your comments to ldigiulio@ieha.org. I.E.H.A. Central District Meeting by Michael Wise, Editorial Intern Coming Summer 2008: Infection Control For Dummies I.E.H.A., the Housekeeping Channel (HC), and Wiley Publishing, Inc., are working together to research and publish a new For Dummies® book— Infection Control For Dummies— authored by I.E.H.A.’s President J. Darrel Hicks and slated for publication in early summer 2008. The custom mini-book will be designed as a concise, authoritative guide to preventing and controlling infectious illness at home and work. The publication is being made possible by generous funding from Spartan Chemical Company, Inc. and with the support of I.E.H.A. membership. Supplies are limited; however, pre-orders are now being taken. Please contact Beth Risinger at brisinger@ieha.org to order your copy today! March 10-11, 2008, the Indiana Chapter of I.E.H.A. hosted the Central District meeting under the theme, “Cruising into the Future with I.E.H.A.” The mini-convention registered 15 new members and had 60 in attendance. This new annual event was organized by Indiana Chapter President Bill Fisher of Intelligent Cleaning Systems, and his team of board members. Special thanks to Margaret Ferry, Indiana Chapter Secretary; Sister Martha Ann Reich, Indiana Chapter Vice President; Brenda Padigo; and Grant Buckley, who went above and beyond in securing the convention meeting space, along with providing food functions and event coordination within the University of Indianapolis. The Trade Show/ Expo featured several educational seminars (pictured left) that were conducted by industry experts on Green cleaning, infection control, and decontamination certification programs, as well as 18 exhibitors and vendors. CEO/Executive Director Beth Risinger attended the meeting to provide words of welcome during the luncheon (pictured above), as well as Sherry Sidwell, Central District Director, who handled all on-site registration. March 79, 2008, the I.E.H.A. Association office, located in Westerville, OH, was blanketed with 20 inches of snow as part of North America’s Blizzard of 2008—the most snow ever recorded for central Ohio! Pictured above is the courtyard of the Association office. In March, Gene Woodard, C.E.H., Director of Custodial Services at the University of Washington, was presented with a certificate and backpack vacuum from Chris Saffel, Distributor of ProTeam products, during the Puget Sound Chapter meeting (pictured above). Woodard received this recognition due to the fact that his custodial department uses ProTeam’s products in compliance with their Green cleaning program—which was the Main Winner (University category) of the Green Cleaning Award for Schools and Universities in December 2007. Congratulations! Congratulations to our 25-Year Members! • Donna Prater: Greater Miami Valley Chapter • Jimmie Morris: North Louisiana Chapter We appreciate your dedication! 30 Executive Housekeeping Today/May 2008
