2008 I.E.H.A. Candidate Information Listed below are the approved candidates for the 2008 I.E.H.A. Officer/Director-At-Large election! The official voting ballot will appear in the July issue of EHT, along with a return envelope for each member to send back to the I.E.H.A. Headquarters. For your vote to count, the ballot must be postmarked no later than August 5, 2008, and you must be a current member of I.E.H.A. There are seven candidates running for the Director-At-Large positions—six will be elected; and the top three Director-At-Large candidates who receive the highest number of votes will serve a four-year term, while the following three candidates who receive the next highest number of votes will serve a two-year term. There are two candidates vying for the President-Elect position, and one running unopposed for the Secretary/Treasurer position. Please remember to vote when you receive your July issue of EHT! All winners will be announced during the Business Session at our 42nd Annual Educational Conference and Convention in Las Vegas, September 9, 2008. President-Elect Eric Bates, R.E.H., is running for the position of President-Elect. Bates joined I.E.H.A. in 1991, became certified (C.E.H.) in 1993, and registered (R.E.H.) in 1996. Bates belongs to the Packer Valley Chapter in the Upper Midwest District. He is currently employed as the Environmental Services Manager for the Bethesda Lutheran Homes and Services, Inc. Bates completed an Associate’s degree in Psychology in 1972 at Skagit Valley College, and received a B.A. in Criminal Justice, Magna Cum Laude, at Western Washington University in 1985. He has held positions at all levels of the Association, with his most recent being the Secretary/Treasurer at the highest level. Bates has many visions for the future of I.E.H.A. such as: creating strong, vibrant Chapters; offering education that is representative of today and a help to managers in our organization; a virtual membership access component; a strong international presence; 90% retention rate for membership; and a vision and goals within the new organizational zero-district format. Timothy L. Padgett, R.E.H., is running for the position of President-Elect. He joined I.E.H.A in 1986, as a certified member (C.E.H.), and became registered (R.E.H.) in 1990. Padgett attended the University of Kentucky and received an Associate’s degree in Communications in 1980, and he continued his studies at the Lexington Vocational Institute in 1981-82. Padgett is currently the Director of Environmental Services at Shriners Hospital for Children in Lexington, KY, and has been there since 1985. He has served at all levels of the Association, with his most recent position being that of Assistant District Director of the Central District. Padgett states that he has a burning desire to give back to the Association that provided him the skills and knowledge for his livelihood. His visions encompass the expansion of I.E.H.A.’s educational programs to include a virtual offering of the Self-Study Program; and development of sound plans to grow the membership base, as well as retain members we have gained through expanded educational resources. Secretary/Treasurer Sherry L. Sidwell, R.E.H., is running unopposed for the position of Secretary/Treasurer. She joined I.E.H.A. in 1986, became certified (C.E.H.) in 1988, and registered (R.E.H.) in 1994. Sidwell is currently the Vice President of Integrated Support Service for the Community Hospital Anderson in Anderson, Indiana, and currently enrolled and working toward a B.S. in Organizational Leadership at Anderson University. Sidwell has held the position of Central District Director for two terms and also served as Chair of the Membership Committee. When elected, her goal is to support strategies that will strengthen I.E.H.A. as an organization and will continue to focus on membership growth. She promises to focus her energy toward demonstrating the benefits of belonging to our Association and encouraging those interested in the executive housekeeping profession to participate in Chapter meetings and in virtual networking. 2 Executive Housekeeping Today/June 2008
