Executive Housekeeping Today - June 2008 - (Page 20) Spring Board Briefing April 10, 2008 Telephone Conference Call 1. President J. Darrel Hicks welcomed all, and thanked each for a most successful and progressive past two years. 2. Secretary/Treasurer Eric Bates presented the Proposed 2008-09 Budget, and it was approved by the Association Board. 3. CEO/Executive Director Beth Risinger provided the Association Office report and reminded all District Directors of their deadlines for Chapter Minutes. At least four sets of Chapter minutes must be received at the Association office by June 30, 2008. By July 30, 2008, the Chapter audits are due on the official form as provided by the Association office. 4. Under District Reports it was noted that several of the Districts were holding final meetings prior to I.E.H.A.’s new organizational plan. Wrap-up stories and pictures of these meetings will be placed in a future issue of EHT. During these reports, it was noted that the following Chapter charters were relinquished: Old North State, Tidewater, Northern Lights, and Central Minnesota. Those placed on six months probation include Pittsburgh and Keystone. 5. Eric Valdminis was named the recipient of the 2008 Education Foundation Award. In addition, a new award for associate members was submitted and approved for awarding ten Self Study Programs annually during Convention. 6. The Association Board approved terminology describing their stance and explanation regarding “virtual access.” 7. The Association Board approved a major addition to the current Self Study program, which will provide additional testing/ study materials for I.E.H.A. members that require subjects such as HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems; and carpentry and CAD/ blueprinting. This new program material is planned to be launched January 1, 2009. 8. Sherry Sidwell, Membership Growth/Awards, presented the committee recommendations for the three major I.E.H.A. award winners. The Association Board approved the submitted nominees for the Margaret Barnes Diamond Award, William Joyner Achievement Award, and Honorary Membership Award. Sidwell also advised that the general membership awards would be compiled as of June 30, for presentation at Convention. In addition, the Roy Young Exhibitor Awards will be selected during the trade show in Las Vegas and announced after the event. Sidwell also discussed the progress that the membership retention subcommittee was experiencing, along with expanded international relationships. 9. Anna Rodriguez and Jim Saley provided their I&R report in writing, stating that they were extremely pleased with the progress in the area of PR and bringing I.E.H.A. to the forefront through the many new mediums, such as the Housekeeping Channel® partnership and the virtual EHT. 10. Linda Dueno-Dufek and Wayne Bledy provided some terrific plans/information about the upcoming Convention in Las Vegas. 11. President-Elect Marvin Ellsworth presented the “Changing of the Guard” plan for reorganization, as well as the strategic plan changes in initiatives. He asked the District Directors to pay special attention to the time frame for submitting their District’s final treasury to the Association Office, as well as closing their District checking accounts. The deadline for doing this is July 31, 2008. 12. The Nominating Committee report was provided by Chairman Gene Woodard. It was noted that there are seven approved candidates running for Director-atLarge, two candidates running for President-Elect, and one running unopposed for Secretary/Treasurer. These candidates held a conference call on April 23 to review their “Social Space” on the I.E.H.A. Web site. All members may go to this area on the Web site and state questions to each candidate, as well as review the candidate’s bio, goals, etc. The top three vote getters of the seven Director-at-Large candidates will be serving a four-year term, and the other three will serve a two-year term for continuity. Voting will be done through a ballot in the July issue of Executive Housekeeping Today—a postage-paid envelope will be provided for returning ballots to the Association Office with a postdate of no later than August 5, 2008, for counting by the I.E.H.A. Legal Counsel. 13. President Hicks provided the Executive Committee Report, which included two new membership benefits: discounts with LifeLock—a preventative and proactive program that protects your identity; and special discounts for I.E.H.A. members that apply for Green Seal’s GS-42 certification. Both of these new member benefits will be “rolled out” to the membership within the next 30 days.
