On February 22, 2008, Columbus Chapter member Dave Johnston and Sarah Larsen, I.E.H.A. Deputy Director (pictured right), participated in Career Day at Walnut Springs Middle School, located in Westerville, Ohio. I.E.H.A. has been asked on an annual basis to participate in this event for the sixth and seventh graders of the school. Johnston and Larsen spoke to the students about their own personal journeys that lead them to choose the housekeeping industry and the opportunities available. Students asked questions regarding job security, challenges, advantages of this career, and how the industry would change in regards to technical advances in ten years—the time some of these students would be thinking about entering the workforce. The students were receptive and surprised to learn what an important role workers in the housekeeping industry play in a facility. I.E.H.A. encourages all members to take one day a year to participate with a local school’s Career Day—it’s important and rewarding to engage children’s minds and open them to an experience they will remember for a lifetime. April showers brought beautiful May flowers in the courtyard of the I.E.H.A. Association office in Westerville, Ohio! 30 Executive Housekeeping Today/June 2008
