Executive Housekeeping Today - July 2008 - (Page 30) What I.E.H.A. Has Done For Me “I signed up for LifeLock on June 2, using the ‘ieha’ promotion code. After hearing favorable testimonials, I felt like my wife and I needed this protection. I feel confident in this ‘insurance policy’ and I hope our membership sees this new benefit as a positive offering.” -J. Darrel Hicks I.E.H.A. President Now It’s Your Turn! What has I.E.H.A. done for YOU lately? If you would like to contribute to this monthly column, please send your comments to ldigiulio@ieha.org. inside On January 17, 2008, the Environmental Services department at Merit Care Health System in Fargo, ND, held a breakfast to celebrate the success of their leadership development program. Three years ago, the department launched this program to increase the staff’s competence, and it explored many facets of leadership, including conflict resolution, team building, alcohol and drug abuse, budgeting, computer skills, memo writing, e-mail, and group presentations. The participants also received Frontline Certification from the I.E.H.A. in the last year of the program. Congratulations! I.E.H.A. On April 30, 2008, Bob Robinson, President of Kaivac; Allen Rathey, President of the Housekeeping Channel®; and Tom Morrison, Vice President of Marketing for Kaivac, (pictured above, left to right) visited the I.E.H.A. Association Office to meet with Beth Risinger, CEO/Executive Director; Sarah Larsen, Deputy Director; and Laura DiGiulio, EHT Editor, to discuss strategic plans for the future of the cleaning industry. EHT would like to thank Editorial Intern Michael Wise (pictured above) for the assistance he provided January through May 2008. We would also like to congratulate him on graduating from Otterbein College in Westerville, OH, in June! Dear I.E.H.A. Membership, It saddens me to share with you that Linda K. Gambaiani, previous editor of Executive Housekeeping Today from December 1989 through January 1995, passed away on April 17, 2008. Linda and I had worked together at a previous non-profit association in the Columbus, Ohio, area during the mid-seventies, and maintained our professional relationship throughout the following years. As the Executive Director of N.E.H.A., I made a proposal to the Board of Directors in mid-year of 1989, regarding the publishing of our magazine, stating that we could reap more revenue for advertising if we took the publication in-house, added some color, provided articles to assist in helping you do your jobs better, focus on a housekeeper on the cover every month with a real-life story, and do an overall jazz-up of the presentation for the members/readership. At that time, Fred Day was the Association President and Harry Kendrick was soon-to-be elected as President for the ‘90-‘92 presidential term. Linda helped me follow through with my proposal. Linda’s first edition was the January 1990 issue, and several letters of accolades began flooding into the Association Office regarding the new and improved look within weeks of the first distribution. The new face of EHT was a smash hit with the members. Linda was only 60 years of age when she died unexpectedly at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, OH. She received her liberal arts degree, combining her studies at Stephens College, MO, and DePauw University in Greencastle, IN, where she studied English Literature and was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. She began her career as an editor at Charles E. Merrill Publishing, followed by the American Society for Nondestructive Testing as editor of Materials Evaluation, and then became N.E.H.A.’s editor for EHT. She also edited Ohio Runner magazine and published and edited Builder/Architect magazine. Linda is survived by her husband, John, and son, Grant, of Westerville, OH. All of us from I.E.H.A. will miss her so very much and we extend our sincerest sympathies to her entire family. Regards, Beth Risinger CEO/Executive Director In Memoriam The following Environmental Service Lead level III associates were honored for their achievement: Front row (L to R): Randy Bye, Regina Bennett-Smith (Facilitator), and Jason Jacob. Back row (L to R): Susan Ernest, Constance Heiberg, Sandra Revenis, Thomas Schafer, and Harvey Nelson. 30 Executive Housekeeping Today/July 2008
