Executive Housekeeping Today- August 2008 - (Page 2) executive corner As I leave the office of President of this great Association, I want to use this quote by Garrison Keillor: “Be well, do good work, and keep in touch.” These words borrowed from Keillor express my wish for each of you. For the past two years as President of I.E.H.A., I have appreciated and enjoyed the confidence you have placed in me. There were times when I was unable to put words to the vision I had or the path we were going to take, but you have supported me all along the way, and for that, I am grateful. I would personally like to thank the Association Office staff for their diligence in seeing to the daily operations of an organization with over 3,800 members in facilities around the globe. They truly make things happen and are a group of professionals who take responsibility to provide top-rated membership support. I would also like to thank them for being there when I needed an answer or support in a project. In particular, I would like to thank Beth Risinger, CEO/Executive Director, for her tireless (and at times, thankless) attention to detail. As she does every two years with an incoming President, she took me under her wing and guided me through the “minefield” to deliver me safely to the other side. Beth has worked closely with me to a Be Well, Do Good Work, and Keep in Touch make sure that I represented you well, and I feel she was successful. I call Beth “my office wife” because she, like my wife, keeps me focused, on task, and accountable. As I took the oath of office at the 2006 Convention in Chicago, I stood before the membership with Marvin Ellsworth and Eric Bates, who were sworn in as President-Elect and Secretary/Treasurer, respectively. Almost immediately, we became “The Three Amigos.” As your leaders, we spent many long hours on the phone or in a stuffy meeting room planning, organizing, and developing proposals to be taken to the Board of Directors that would provide for the future of our Association. As a term of endearment, I refer to them as “Brother Marvin” and “Brother Eric” because we spent so much time in the trenches together, and I always sensed their camaraderie/loyalty. I am experiencing a range of emotions as I look back over the past two years as your President. The three strongest are: anticipation, excitement, and apprehension. I am filled with anticipation as I leave the position as President due our great Association’s growth and position for the future. In addition, I am excited for you and all those who will join I.E.H.A. As the organization of choice for facilities managers, I.E.H.A. is becoming a (continued on page 4) Compass and Encompass INTERNATIONAL EXECUTIVE HOUSEKEEPERS ASSOCIATION,INC.
