Executive Housekeeping Today - September 2008 - (Page 3) 2008 Salary Survey Results This year, 131 members, representing 4.3% of the entire I.E.H.A. membership, completed I.E.H.A.’s 2008 Salary Survey. The majority of respondents completed the survey by logging in to the “Members Only” section of www.ieha. org, while others submitted the print version that appeared in the February 2008 issue of Executive Housekeeping Today by fax or mail. Similar to our previous year’s results, the majority of respondents work in hospitals; hold the job title of “Director of Environmental Services”; report that they are making more than $30,000 per year; maintain responsibility for cleaning 100,000-500,000 square feet of space; pay their frontline employees between $9.50 and $15.00 per hour; and report that t Data compiled by Michael Wise, Editorial Assistant Intern Article written by Laura M. DiGiulio, Editor their department’s operating cost has increased in the past year. 3 Characteristics of Respondents As mentioned above, the majority of respondents (29%) are Directors of Environmental Services; while 16% are Executive Housekeepers, 12% are Managers, 12% are Directors of Housekeeping and Laundry, 6% are Facility Managers, 2% are Directors of Operations, 1% are Housekeeping Services Managers, and 22% are other. (Refer to “Titles Surveyed” graph on next page.) Of the respondents, 91% said that they have the authority to make purchasing decisions, and the majority said that they purchase their equipment from a distributor. In terms of the respondent’s salaries, the majority of them (22%) stated that they earn between $40,000-50,000 per year. In addition, 17% earn between $30,000-40,000 per year; 16% earn between $50,000-60,000; 13% between $60,000-70,000; 13% between $70,000-80,000; 7% between $80,000-90,000; 5% between $90,000-100,000; 4% between $20,000-30,000; and 3% make more than $100,000 per year. (Refer to “Executive Housekeeper Salaries” on next page.) In regards to frontline employee wages, as stated above, the majority of respondents (45%) say they pay between $9.50 and $15.00 per hour.
