Executive Housekeeping Today - October 2008 - (Page 17) The IEHA/CRI Partnership In conjunction with our upcoming ICM Symposium (details located on the right), IEHA has formed another partnership—with the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI). CRI is the national trade association for the carpet and rug industry and represents manufacturers. One of CRI’s main visions is to be a resource to provide the most credible information for endusers so that they can make the most informed decision possible when it comes to choosing a floor covering. Based on scientific testing, CRI spearheaded the Seal of Approval (SOA) program for carpet cleaning solutions. SOA tests the effectiveness of carpet cleaning products and identifies those that remove stains and soil without damaging the carpet. The program evaluates spot removers and pre-spray and in-tank solutions. The Seal of Approval program rates individual products based on overall effectiveness, rate of re-soiling, pH levels, presence of optical brightness, and colorfastness to light. “Superior cleaning products help cleaning professionals reduce labor, improve results, and ensure a healthier environment,” says Werner Braun, CRI President. “The Carpet and Rug Institute is committed to ensuring the carpet is cleaned u sing high-performance products and processes that keep carpets looking good and prevent premature wear and replacement—a commitment that helps both indoor and outdoor environments.” IEHA Presents: An Integrated Cleaning and Measurement™ (ICM™) Symposium October 22-24, 2008 Where: Holiday Inn, Cincinnati Airport Hotel 1717 Airport Exchange Blvd. Erlanger, KY 41018 To book your room ($109 per night), call (859) 746-5613 Cost: $695. In addition, all attendees will receive a FREE $1000 ATP device for them to use at their facilities as a gift. i by Laura M. DiGiulio, Editor Trained professionals in an independent testing laboratory using plain water as a control found that many currently available carpet cleaners are not even as effective as water when it comes to removing stains and soil. For a product to receive the CRI approval, it must prove effective at removing some of the most stubborn carpet stains, including yellow mustard, grape juice, hot black coffee, chocolate syrup, permanent marker, dirty motor oil, and synthetic soil. In addition, CRI certifies vacuum cleaners, extractors, and cleaning systems through an independent testing lab as a way to ensure customers that they are using the very best products. CRI also recognizes those products which have been certified by organizations as being “Green” under their Green SOA category. This way, end-users can find a product that is both environmentally-friendly and works well. According to the CRI, they have teamed up with IEHA to help educate our members on the use of the SOA-certified products and the difference they can make. Mr. Braun will be one of the featured speakers at the upcoming ICM event in Cincinnati, OH, and will tell the group about the benefits to choosing these superior cleaning products.
