The information, available at www.issa. com/green, is one of many initiatives stemming from ISSA’s long-range strategic plan to provide the industry and the public at large with valuable information regarding the connections between science, cleaning, and health. Product manufacturers and distributors will find details regarding proper use of environmental marketing claims while people looking for “Green” products or services will find tips to help them identify what criteria are available to distinguish between the options that currently exist. This resource is available only to members of ISSA (members need to log in with member ID and login name). Some of the ISSA-specific resources now available online include guides to Green-procurement policies across the United States and the connection between Green cleaning and the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings (LEED-EB) program. IEHA Introduces Integrated Cleaning and Measurement (ICM)— October 2008 Kick-Off Event, EHT Column Planned Westerville, OH—As a part of its continuing commitment to industry education, IEHA As will provide a groundbreaking three-day Fall 2008 program on Integrated Cleaning and Measurement (ICM)—an open-source system in which “best practices” are defined by scientific measurement of cleaning outcomes. Both IEHA members and cleaning industry professionals interested in becoming IEHA members are invited to the kick-off event in Cincinnati OH, October 22-24, 2008. “IEHA is pleased to introduce in-depth instruction around the concept of Integrated Cleaning and Measurement (ICM),” says Beth Risinger, IEHA CEO/Executive Director. “ICM is based on a fundamentally different approach: integrating the cleaning process with measurement of outcomes, and adopting cleaning tools in an open-source manner based on their proven ability to produce positive measurable results.” “The ICM Program is a path to an emerging skill set centered around measuring the impacts of cleaning—from appearance, to productivity, to public health, and beyond,” says Marvin Ellsworth, REH, IEHA President. “IEHA is committed to industry transformation by making a difference in the lives of cleaning professionals, including our nearly 4,000 members. By providing access to resources such as the ICM Program, then integrating these efforts with our CEH and REH Certifications, as well as the work of the Cleaning Industry Research Institute (CIRI), we intend to raise the professionalism, profile, and the value of our industry contributions to public health and more.” Each attendee at the event will receive a handheld ATP device ($1,000 value), along with training and access to follow-up assistance from industry experts to achieve CEH and REH Certification, CIMS Certification, GS-42 Certification, LEED-EB O&M Certification, CMI Certification, IICRC Certification, and more. “We are committed to helping our members put all the key industry components together in an integrated way that is validated and documented through measurement,” says Risinger. “The whole is greater than the sum of the parts, and we want to assist attendees to progressively reach their professional objectives using a holistic approach.” Also, coming soon in Executive Housekeeping Today magazine will be a regular column on ICM to enable IEHA members to further implement this process.
