My assigned Chapters are engaged and very supportive of the new landscape. As Director-at-Large for my assigned Chapters, I have been received with great enthusiasm and a very warm welcome from each of the Chapter Presidents. They are indeed grateful of the interest taken in ensuring the Chapters’ vibrant healthy status and continued growth. Issues vary amongst my respective Chapters; but those Chapter’s faced with challenges include Chapter meeting locale, member participation and/or commitment, as well as membership radius being quite extensive. First and foremost, I have pledged and committed to each of my assigned Chapter Presidents monthly (or more if needed) communication via e-mail and or personal phone calls to assist them with their challenges, by being their sounding board as well as reinforcing their efforts with positive strokes. To those facing the aforementioned challenges, suggestions have already been discussed with the Chapter Presidents who are encouraged and enthused at working on their respective issues to include distribution of Chapter surveys/questionnaires for member’s input in the revitalization of their Janet Wiggins, CEH, Director-at-Large “So far, I think the organizational change is working well. We seem to have a stronger connection to the Chapters. Speaking from a past District Director’s perspective, I think this structure allows the Board of Directors to get to know Chapters in all parts of the county. Every Chapter President I have spoken with has been very excited about having that personal touch from the Directors-at-Large. The most expressed Chapter President issue is the lack of participation at the Chapter meetings. Only a few Chapters are consistently averaging more than 50 percent attendance. Another issue is recruiting new members. These issues can be solved by sharing information on how other Chapters are maintaining attendance at over 50 percent and encouraging and assisting them in sending letters and calling prospective members.” The theme of all responses from the “New Nine” seems to be that if we work together as an Association, we will achieve greatness together as an Association. Be sure to get involved with your Chapter’s activities and take advantage of all the benefits IEHA has to offer.
