Most vendors were eager to sit down and discuss both their products, and the possibilities of incorporating them into an existing system—that alone was worth the price of admission,” says Bales. “In addition, getting a chance to meet with and talk to a number of vendors helped me a great deal in putting together my 2009 operational budget.” At 12:30, the Las Vegas Convention Center filled with excitement and noise from the participants and cheerleaders of the IEHA Housekeeping Olympics, hosted by the Las Vegas Chapter, and sponsored by Serta Beds, Windsor Industries, ProTeam, Standard Textile, Pahrump Pillows, and Mission Industries. The event began with a parade around the trade show floor and participants competed in events such as bed making, a johnny mop toss, and vacuuming contests. (Editor’s note: More information on the IEHA Housekeeping Olympics can be found on page 17). “One of the most exciting events during the ISSA/INTERCLEAN show and IEHA Convention this year was the Housekeeping Olympics. Kudos to everyone involved!” says Harry Kendrick, REH, Past National President of IEHA and member of the Vert Mont Chapter. “The enthusiasm of the participants was unforgettable. I hope this can be repeated next year in Chicago.” While some IEHA members opted to watch the Housekeeping Olympics, others opted to attend the CEH/REH Review and Exam at the Convention Center Wednesday afternoon in order to gain or renew their status. The Convention Center drew to a close that evening with the ISSA Trade Show Floor Happy Hour, with entertainment During IEHA’s Evening of Elegance on Wednesday evening, attendees enjoyed decadent coffees, drinks, and desserts, and entertainment provided by top-notch Frank Sinatra impersonator, Michael Sutherland (pictured below). provided by Cirque du Soleil-type performers. However, the day wasn’t over yet for IEHA members. Wednesday evening brought IEHA’s Evening of Elegance, located on the Penthouse Level of the Riviera Hotel, overlooking Las Vegas. Attendees enjoyed decadent coffees, drinks, and desserts, and entertainment provided by topnotch Frank Sinatra impersonator, Michael Sutherland, from Columbus, Ohio. During the event, Edward Vizvarie, REH, was named the recipient of the coveted Margaret Barnes Diamond Award, established in 1988 as a national outstanding member award; international member Sheila Perera was the winner of the IEHA Honorary Membership Award, a status of membership conferred upon a person who has made notable contributions to the housekeeping management profession; and Rosita Galera received the William D.
