If you would like to contribute to this monthly column, please send your comments to ldigiulio@ieha.org. inside IEHA Green Mission Statement ieha IEHA, a global membership organization comprised of professional facilities maintenance executives, is committed to being a good steward of the environment and, hence, is a supporter of the “Green” movement. We are proactive in providing education to those directly and indirectly involved in the cleaning industry and encourage a healthier, more productive, sustainable environment that will reduce the many burdens placed upon human health and our natural resources. For many years, IEHA has shown a dedicated commitment to “Green” cleaning. This is evidenced within the organization’s Mission Statement, which states the following: “We are a professional organization committed to a cleaner, safer, healthier environment.” Through our primary communication vehicles—Executive Housekeeping Today magazine, our Web site, www.ieha.org, and international newsletters and bulletins—we show our commitment to being environmentally responsible. We will strive to continue providing a forum for “Green” initiatives, education, best practices, and information to our members and all involved in the cleaning industry. The North Louisiana Chapter held it’s annual Christmas banquet on December 13, 2008, at the Holiday Inn Bossier, Bossier City, LA. The Chapter had the honor of hosting IEHA President Marvin Ellsworth as their special guest speaker (pictured above with the Chapter officers/directors). There were around 40 members and guests in attendance. Music was provided by Warren Grafton, MD, which included a Christmas song that he put together himself. In addition, Chapter Vice President Reggie Hodge, Division Manager for Environmental Services for the Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation (pictured below with certificates presented to him by the Mayor of Shreveport) was selected as Chapter Member of the Year for 2008. On November 12, 2008, the VertMont Chapter held a two-part educational session, with Mark Warner as the speaker. Part one was “Surface Disinfection and Decontamination” and part two was “Methods and Benefits of Low Moisture Carpet Cleaning.” Attendees enjoyed morning coffee and pastries, and lunch sponsored by Carpet King. More than 12 IEHA members attended; however, many of them brought their staff, bringing the total amount of attendees to 80-plus. Chapter President Walter Reed describes the event as their best seminar to date. In late December, Edward Vizvarie, REH, accepted the open position within the IEHA Board of Directors. Vizvarie joined IEHA in 1993, became registered (REH) in 2007. He is currently the Director of Facilities at HowardCenter in Burlington, VT. He is a member of the VertMont Chapter of IEHA and served as the Chapter’s President in 2003-07. Vizvarie will serve a 2-year term on the IEHA BOD. Purchase Your Medical Insurance Through MedPerks®!
