There are a number of states that claim to be the rodeo capitol of the world. Utah has never made that claim, but Utah definitely has their share of rodeo champions that call the Beehive State their home. Cody Wright of Milford in Beaver County captured his first Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) World Championship in saddle bronc riding in 2008. Wright was also a team member on the National High School Rodeo Championship team from Utah and is a National Collegiate champ. Wesley Silcox of Payson took home the Gold Buckle for bull riding in 2007 and made another run for the title in 2008. Blue Stone of Ogden won two bull riding titles in 2001 and 2002. Lewis Field of Payson is a 5-time PRCA World Champion. The Utah Valley University rodeo team coach won three all-around championships to go along with two bareback titles. Lan LaJeunesse took home the bareback titles in 1999 and again in 2001 and calls Morgan, Utah his home. Chad Bedell of Jensen, Utah won the Gold Buckle in steer wrestling in 1996. Pro Bull Riders 40 standout Tony Mendes also makes his home in Utah. Weber State University in Ogden won the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association women’s rodeo title in 1997, and again in 1998. Utah has dominated the National High School Rodeo Association in the 2000’s. Utah brought the national high school crown back to Utah the past three years in a row. Utah also won national titles in 1996, 2000, 2001, and 2003. Utah also has a good reputation for producing some of the top PRCA rodeos in the United States. The Days of 47 Rodeo in Salt Lake City is among the best in the world and is held in July each year.
