Bring the family and celebrate the 100-year anniversary of Zion National Park from the picturesque and less traveled East-side of Zion National Park. The views and experience from the east side of Utah’s oldest national park provide for an ideal escape from the crowds. Stay in Mt. Carmel, Orderville or Glendale and still enjoy Zion. East Zion offers a number of lodging options with bed & breakfasts, cabins, hotels, resorts, ranches, campgrounds, RV parks and has a formidable list of dining establishments. Many of Zion’s natural wonders are located on the east side of the park and are still a secret to most visitors. There are petroglyphs situated in Zion on the eastern side of the tunnel that are not marked or noted on maps. Local business owners on the east-side are happy to let visitors in on the local East Zion Information www.eastziontourism council.org Hwy 9 to Zion from the East at Mt. Carmel is open year-round. The elevation of East Zion is a “mile high” at over 5,280 feet. secrets and little known facts. Kids and families enjoy the herd of Buffalo who make their home at Zion Mountain Resort near the east entrance to Zion. The Big Horn Sheep who call Zion home, also prefer to stay on the east side of the tunnel and are happy to pose for photos. Check out the slots canyons near Mt. Carmel along with a kid-friendly 9-hole golf course that encourages family golf outings. Maynard Dixon is one of the best known American landscape artists and had a summer home in Mt. Carmel. The Maynard Dixon Country art event is held each August. Be sure to check out the solar system and brilliant stars to be seen in the famous East Zion night sky. East Zion provides a shorter drive to the other scenic destinations. The famous hoodoos of Bryce Canyon are less than 60 miles northeast. The Coral Pink Sand Dunes are only 12 miles to the south. The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is 95 miles away and Lake Powell is less than 100 miles away.
