Montes, executive vice president, chief compliance officer and chief financial officer, Emmett A. Larkin; Irene Sosh, mother Olson oversees operations such as trade comparison, money market fund processing, internal audit and anti-money laundering compliance. She developed the firm’s AML program, including suspicious activity review and reporting, and authored the firm’s continuing education modules on AML. She supervises six compliance and back office employees for this on line and full service execution, clearing and custody services broker-dealer. She will become chief compliance officer when CCO George Montes retires this fall. Olson joined the firm in 1999 in the margin department and became a compliance associate the same year, then left briefly in 2004 to become a supervisor in risk management at E*Trade Clearing, before returning the same year. At E*Trade she led weekly meetings on fraud prevention and AML. “Regulators continue to raise the compliance bar. Demonstrating a clear commitment to compliance has become an increasing burden for small and mid-sized firms. Mentors: Charles Etherington, general counsel, American Century; Ken Scott, former independent director of American Century; David Riggs, vice president and associate general counsel, Charles Schwab; David Tucker, former general counsel, American Century Park oversees investment adviser and investment company compliance at Barclays Global Investors, which he joined in 2006. Prior to Barclays, he worked with American Century Investments, beginning in 1995 as in-house corporate counsel supervising compliance functions and overseeing board reporting. At the end of his 11 years there, Park was chief compliance officer of the adviser and its funds. He began his career in private practice advising investment companies, their directors and advisers. Park has spoken most recently at the Investment Company Institute’s Compliance Programs Conference in April. He is a member of ICIs Chief Compliance Officer Committee; Bay Area Chief Compliance Officers; and was the founder of the Kansas City Chief Compliance Officers Association. “In every segment of business, there are cyclical periods during which there is intense focus and dedication of resources; compliance is certainly in the middle of one of these periods. Eventually, the focus shifts and resource allocation stabilizes.
