The 20 Rising Stars of Fixed Income 2008 - (Page 12) By Hillary Jackson 20 Rising Stars Fixed Income Once again, Institutional Investor News has identified 20 individuals we expect to shape the fixed-income market in the years to come, profiling each in our second annual edition of 20 Rising Stars in Fixed Income. The cream of the crop, they are ready to lead the way forward in a constantly evolving and dynamic sector of the financial services industry. As always, nominees were submitted by professionals throughout the fixed-income industry and were vetted and selected by the business publishing staff. The selected individuals meet the criteria of having demonstrated expertise, dedication and consistency in their careers, indicating they will likely be the trendsetters of the future. This year’s winning nominees represent a variety of specialties within the fixed-income arena and work with an array of products. In addition to traditional bonds, they focus on high-yield instruments, derivatives, mortgage-backed securities, commodities, credit products and other assets. They specialize in portfolio management, trading, research, syndication, strategy, technology and consulting and represent markets around the world – from Seattle to New York and from London to Johannesburg. Our winning nominees are passionate about the fixed-income market and optimistic about its development and growth going forward. Among other things, this year’s Rising Stars predict that over the course of the next 10 years the fixed-income market will see the introduction of new and increasingly innovative products, an increase in accessibility to retail investors, a widening acceptance of derivative products, a transition to electronic trading, a greater expansion into emerging economies, continued consolidation and tighter regulatory controls and increased oversight. Other noteworthy points about our Rising Stars: • 50% are American and 25% are British; • Some 35% work in the northeastern United States and 30% work in London; • Nearly one-third work in portfolio management and 15% in trading; • They are highly educated, with 70% holding a master’s degree, one holding a Ph.D. and another holding a J.D.; • 75% are in their 30s, with the group having an average age of 36. Selecting the final 20 Rising Stars was a difficult task, as many outstanding individuals were nominated. We would like to thank the nominees and those who nominated them for making this list possible, and we look forward to charting the professional progress of our Rising Stars in the years to come. So, without further ado, here are our Rising Stars, listed alphabetically by surname. 12 FIXED INCOME RISING STARS MAY 2008
