In selecting finalists for our second edition, we tried to be representative of the fixed-income market’s diversity. As you will see, this year’s 20 Rising Stars of Fixed Income come from all segments of the market, from corporate bonds to structured finance and from bank loans to derivatives. Furthermore, they specialize in a vast array of disciplines, including portfolio management, trading, research, syndication, strategy, technology and consulting (see coverage beginning on page 12). As with all the titles in our Rising Stars series, 20 Rising Stars of Fixed Income also includes features on the industry and compensation. Our industry overview addresses how deal volume across the three major submarkets – bonds, bank loans and securitized products - has been shrinking since the middle of last year and is expected to continue to do so as a result of market uncertainty (see story, page 6). In compensation, we reveal that, in the wake of 20 last year’s blood-letting, bonuses for Rising fixed-income pros are expected to shrink Stars even further this year, although salaries Fixed Income should hold steady (see story, page 8).
