While 20 Rising Stars of Mutual Funds is meant to honor industry executives around the globe, the finalists in our inaugural edition are almost exclusively from the United States. Perhaps that says something about the talent domestically, or perhaps it says something about the proactiveness of their peers in nominating them for this honor. Regardless, several of the finalists still manage to bring international flavor to the mix either through working in the U.S. office of an international manager or through having worked abroad in the past (see coverage beginning on page 10). As with all the titles in our Rising Stars series, 20 Rising Stars of Mutual Funds also includes features on the industry and compensation. Our industry overview addresses how mutual fund companies increasingly are looking toward non-traditional investments for future growth (see story, page 6). In compensation, we reveal that base pay is likely to MUTUAL FUNDS hold steady for most fund managers, but a greater number will see their bonuses tied to performance (see story, page 8).
