In selecting finalists for our third edition, we tried to be representative of the commercial real estate market’s diversity. As you will see, this year’s 20 Rising Stars of Real Estate come from all segments of the market, from investment banking to investment management and from development companies to brokerage firms. Furthermore, they are increasingly becoming globally diverse, a trend that continues to gain momentum as established markets become more consolidated and investors look abroad for opportunities (see coverage beginning on page 10). As with all the titles in our Rising Stars series, 20 Rising Stars of Real Estate also includes features on the industry and compensation. Our industry overview addresses how transaction volume has been slipping since the middle of 20 year and likely will continue to do so as a Real Estate result of economic pressures (see story, page 6). In compensation, we reveal that pay, bonuses and hiring activity also are likely to take a hit as the troubles of the residential market finally catch up to the commercial space (see story, page 8).
