The 20 Rising Stars of Retirement Plan Advisory 2008 - (Page 26) SEAN DEVINEY Retirement Planning Specialist Provenance Wealth Advisors, Ft. Lauderdale Age: 28 Education: College of Charleston (B.S. in Business Administration) Mentor: Dan Lortz, Regional Director, SEI Investments Over the past three years, Deviney has grown Provenance Wealth Advisors’ retirement plans business from nothing to its current level of $120 million in assets under management. More impressively, he hasn’t lost a single client during that time.“That is a tribute to the high level of service we provide our clients and their desire to maintain a successful retirement plan for their employees,” he said. 6. Deviney, who is responsible for new business development and relationship management for all corporate retirement plans, was an institutional internal account executive at SEI Investments for three years before joining Provenance Wealth Advisors in June 2005. A Certified Financial Planner, he is regularly quoted in industry trade publications and is a member of the firm’s Investment Committee. Deviney predicted that, at some point, employers of certain sizes will be required to make fixed contributions on behalf of their employees and that all companies – regardless of size – will be required to provide employees with a retirement savings vehicle.“Assuming the current trend away from employer- and governmentfinanced retirement continues, Congress will have to increase the annual contribution limits,” he said. Deviney, who acts as a mentor to lowincome children when he’s not working, hopes to be remembered for helping to change the retirement landscape in the United States – a task he believes to be of utmost importance. “The potential time bomb associated with the current Social Security system is extremely unnerving,” he said.“We need more groups focused on finding a bi-partisan resolution to America’s crisis.” 7. KEITH DRESSEL duced to David Napolitano, now a senior vice president at Morgan Stanley, in the stadium parking lot by his father. “My father knew him and made it sound like he was an insurance salesman,” he said. “He told me to sit down with him, and I begrudgingly went.” After meeting more formally with Napolitano and three other people in his group, which at the time was part of Prudential Securities, Dressel learned more about the true nature of the job and decided to pursue the path laid out before him. He was hired in March 2000 and began forming a close relationship with Napolitano. “David’s always thought outside the box and is trying to impress upon me to do the same,” he said of his mentor. The Napolitano Group - part of Morgan Stanley since January 2005 - mainly targets plans in the Tri-State area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut but will go “anywhere the business takes us,” Dressel said. Being part of Morgan Stanley has given the business credibility, as well as boosting resources, he noted, adding that the group now services plans with some $1.2 billion in assets. Dressel works mostly with union plans in a relationship management capacity but has begun aggressively targeting corporate sponsors with $100 million or more in plan assets.
