WINDSWEPT MARKETING, Asheville, N.C., recently announced
it will begin a licensing program for its proprietary Indirect Embroidery process, enabling eligible distributors and decorators to perform
the process.
A patented process developed and perfected during the last 15 years,
Indirect Embroidery enables designs to be placed on different products
and substrates - cap bills, plackets, canvas bags, portfolios, neoprene,
performancewear, shoes and more - without hooping. Additionally,
the process eliminates some of the disadvantages of traditional embroidery, according to Brian Fuchs, president, Windswept Marketing.
"The benefits are that decoration doesn't penetrate through the apparel," he says. "There's no backing seen through the front of a shirt,
no irritating itching on the inside and no puckering that you get with
standard embroidery. It results in a higher-quality look and feel."
Fuchs says Windswept can guarantee a perfect finished product because the company first concentrates only on the embroidered design.
All details, whether in a large jacket-back design or a logo with small
text, are optimized. Indirect Embroidery also is versatile enough that
it can be combined with dye sublimation if a client wants to do color
variance or gradients on a design or logo with fine detail, Fuchs says.
Once the design is approved, the company moves to the application process, which is proprietary. Because of this, Windswept can be
considered a contract decorator of sorts. In fact, past clients include
the National Football League, NASCAR, Home Depot and more.
Starting this month, the company will roll out a licensing program
for qualified decorators or distributors who want to offer the Indirect
Embroidery process to their clients. "What we've always been asked
by [our customers] is, 'Can we do [Indirect Embroidery] ourselves?'"
Fuchs says. "We've always said 'no' because it's a complex process.
"Over the past year, we've decided to give the people what they
want," he adds. "We will be licensing and offering the intellectual
property knowledge, patented process and machinery, and we will be
a long-term partner with [clients] to do not only the Indirect Embroidery for jobs, but also be their testing facility to let them decorate
merchandise and apparel."
Fuchs says Windswept currently has beta licensees in place and
the actual program will include a qualifying process before approval.
